Lesson 2：過去進行形 – 動いていた瞬間を描く

過去進行形（was / were + -ing）は「過去の一瞬」ではなく、当時の空気や流れを再現するための表現です。
訓練では、「そのとき何をしていたか」を報告できる力が求められます。
このレッスンでは、行動の流れ・状態・別の出来事との重なりを英語で描く練習をします。

学習ステップ

  1. 構造を理解する： was / were + 動詞のing形。
  2. 一瞬の行動ではなく、流れを意識する：「していたところ」「その最中に」など。
  3. 行動＋出来事の同時進行を描く： when / while を使って状況を説明する。

過去進行形の基本構文

while + 進行形 While we were briefing, the wind direction changed. ブリーフィング中に風向きが変わった。
2つの動作の重なり I was preparing the flight plan, and he was checking the NOTAM. 私がフライトプランを準備している間、彼はノータムを確認していた。

訓練・座学で使える過去進行表現

  • When I was turning base, another aircraft entered the pattern.（ベースターン中に別の機体が進入した。）
  • I was adjusting the heading, but the wind was stronger than expected.（方位を調整していたが、風が予想より強かった。）
  • We were waiting for clearance when the system froze.（クリアランスを待っていたとき、システムが固まった。）
  • The instructor was explaining the go-around procedure.（教官はゴーアラウンド手順を説明していた。）

  • I did check the pattern, but another aircraft was approaching.（確認はしたが、別の機体が進入していた。）
  • We were briefing when the instructor did call the tower.（ブリーフィング中に教官がタワーへコールした。）
  • I was going to submit the flight plan, but the computer was down.（提出しようとしたが、システムが落ちていた。）

よくある落とし穴

  • 進行形は「過去に継続していたこと」を表す。単なる過去形（did）とは違い、「その瞬間に続いていた状態」を描く。
  • 過去進行は “be + ing” なので、be動詞の時制ミス（was / were）に注意。
  • 「二つの動作の交差」を説明できると、訓練報告・ブリーフィングが格段に明確になる。
